Alaska Village Electric Cooperative Journeyman Lineman in Anchorage, Alaska

We are seeking a highly skilled and experiencedJourneyman Linemanin our Bethel location to assist in the distribution activities of our utility in Bethel and across 59 rural villages in Alaska. As part of our team, you'll have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by ensuring that electricity is delivered to our members in some of the most challenging environments. The ideal candidate for the Journeyman Lineman position will have a strong background in electrical distributions systems and possess the necessary certifications to perform lineman duties safely and effectively and will also be adventurous enough to take on rural Alaska.

Alaska Village Electric Cooperative (AVEC) stands as a unique electric generation and distribution cooperative, serving 59 communities across Alaska. Our operation spans 46 small, isolated grids relying on a mix of diesel, wind, and solar generation to power 11,513 meters and maintain 515 miles of distribution line.

As a Journeyman Lineman you will organize, direct and perform construction work on-site required to serve Members with electrical energy through a diesel generation and distribution system. You will respond to outages and emergencies in a timely manner to restore power to customers. You will correct operational problems and perform maintenance and repair on the distribution systems and power plants. The Journeyman Lineman will adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to minimize and ensure the well-being of yourself and your team. Also, as a Journeyman Lineman, you are out in the public and will need to maintain good relations with Village Council and Member-Owners and build their understanding and confidence in AVEC's values, mission, and goals.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in electrical power distribution, experience in rural Alaska preferred.
  • Journeyman Power Lineman with the State of Alaska.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent and successful completion of a lineman apprenticeship program.
  • Valid driver's license.

Rewards:

We offer a comprehensive pay and benefit package. Highlights include starting pay expected between $35.71 and $49.15 per hour. 401K Plan with Employer Match and Retirement Pension Plan (Defined Benefit, Employer paid pension). Paid leave (PTO) starting at 21 days per year and up to 6 weeks maximum. We also offer 8 paid Holidays plus 2 Floating Holidays and a Birthday Holiday.
