BAE Systems Warehouse/Shop Material Handler in Anniston, Alabama

Job Description

Purpose of Position:

Facilitates the movement and storage of material on the shop floor and in the warehouse. Performs all other duties, as assigned.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. INVENTORY CONTROL

  2. Tracks quantities of parts to be packaged

  3. Monitors on hand balances of shop floor locations for parts and supplies and notifies ATL of any shortages of required packaging supplies. Performs indirect functions as needed to ensure all necessary material is available when required

  4. Verifies accuracy of work and completes appropriate paperwork and computer transactions to ensure inventory accuracy and quality workmanship.

  5. Uses personal computer or other data acquisition devices (i.e. bar-code) to check or record data as required

  6. PACKAGING

  7. Understands and follows established work instruction to assure adherence to ISO standards and MMAS requirements.

  8. Performs packaging and crating functions associated with shipment of complex defense products

  9. Receives instructions and work orders from Planning and/or Packaging Engineering

  10. Refers to work guides or other work procedures to obtain appropriate packaging and shipment requirements

  11. Uses appropriate work guides to perform various packaging operations (i.e. cleaning, wrapping, packing and labeling), calculates weights and cubes as required. Notifies ATL or QA of damaged material or equipment

  12. Scans and prints labels or packing list and apply to proper crate, box or container

  13. MATERIAL HANDLING

  14. Performs routine daily maintenance checks on material handling equipment

  15. Performs complex rigging and material moves using bridge cranes, jib cranes and fork lifts

  16. Handles materials to and from work area, using jib or overhead cranes or other material handling equipment as required

  17. SHIPPING

  18. Performs banding, wrapping tagging, etc. for the safe and efficient movement, storage and preservation of material

  19. Performs palletizing and shrink-wrapping

  20. Performs loading of trucks

  21. Leads and coordinates all complex movement of work in process material for shipping

  22. SAFETY

  23. Safely operates various types of material handling equipment

  24. Implements and maintains 6 S Principles and housekeeping standards in his/her work area.

  25. Understands and follows established safety rules and practices.

  26. Keeps work area safe and clean

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

Required Skills

  1. Work requires high school diploma or GED equivalent

  2. Must be able to work in a team-oriented environment.

Must be able to safely operate material handling equipment (such as pallet jack, forklift, man-lift, picker, etc.) for moving material from outside storage areas or for unloading incoming material into other shop floor areas as needed

Pay Information

This position is covered under a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), which will determine your wages.
