Maintenance Supervisor

OVERVIEW:

Starting Wage: $28.00

Oversees the day-to-day functions of mechanics, bus washers, and utility workers. Maintenance facilities typically operate on a three-shift basis to ensure that maintenance on equipment is completed; tests and inspections of products, services and process to evaluate quality or performance of that equipment is accomplished; and specifications are met to DOT, client or Company standards. Dependent on the location, there may be one to several Maintenance Supervisors per shift.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Oversees repairs, preventive maintenance, servicing and cleaning of revenue and non-revenue vehicles.

  2. Responsible for support services including heavy overhauls, light unit rebuilds, electronic and body repairs.

  3. Responsible for the ordering of parts and maintaining inventory.

  4. Supervises maintenance personnel including training, scheduling, discipline, and terminations.

  5. Monitors technician performance and initiates appropriate disciplinary action in a manner consistent with company/location policy.

  6. Ensures that all mechanics have the proper licenses and certifications.

  7. Supervises and inspects major repairs and provide technical assistance to mechanics.

  8. Responsible for directing the work of all technicians including the development of work orders and the evaluation of all repairs performed by both the technicians and outside vendors.

  9. Monitors radio communications during route times and ensures that all operator inquiries related to the mechanical operation of the vehicle are responded to immediately.

  10. Advises Manager of individual situations that require further attention.

  11. Responsible for vehicle titles and registration, which includes Vehicle Change Notice’s and annual registration fees.

  12. Responsible for DOT compliance and inspections of revenue and service equipment.

  13. Other duties to ensure the efficient operation of the maintenance facility.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma required; some college preferred.

  • Must have 3-5 years of supervisory experience in a safety sensitive environment.

  • Must have 3-5 years of experience dealing with heavy equipment.

  • Experience working with Unions and in the transportation industry a must.

  • Must have previous experience supervising employees on multiple shifts.

  • ASE certification is required.

  • Must be a team player yet able to work well independently.

  • Must be able to demonstrate poise, tact, diplomacy and possesses good judgment and discretion.

  • Detail oriented, well organized, and possess effective time management skills.

  • General knowledge of Windows-based computer operating system and Microsoft office package.

  • Must be able to work flexible hours or shifts.

  • 10% of work is accomplished in doors and in air conditioned or well-ventilated facilities.

  • 90% of work is accomplished open garage facility.

  • Ability to handle heavy lifting.

  • Performs physical activities that require considerable use of the arms, repetitive hand-wrist motion, and legs and moving the whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.
