Utility Meter Technician/Painter

As a utility meter technician/painter, you will complete preventative maintenance work relating to atmospheric corrosion. In addition, you will learn how to utilize the computer system to plan and complete your daily work.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Follow prescribed procedures to prepare, clean, prime, and paint metering and associated equipment.

  • Prepares surfaces of existing Utility equipment and Gas Meters by sanding and cleaning with the use of solvents.

  • Responsible for the safe operation of a company vehicle, equipment, and tools.

  • Perform up to standards within time frames outlined by the Field Supervisor and Project Manager.

  • Conduct leak surveys and proper premise checks and use proper reporting procedures to report unsafe conditions.

  • Commitment to Customer Service and responding to the needs of internal and external customers in a professional manner.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.

  • Self-motivated with the ability to work with little supervision.

  • Strong directional skills: the ability to read and understand maps via GPS instruments and websites, i.e., Garmin’s, Yahoo Maps, MapQuest, etc.

  • Physical capacity to withstand exposure to all kinds of weather while completing the work assignment.

  • Computer and smartphone literate.

  • Ability to read maps and navigate in congested areas.

  • Independently manage time and workload to meet deadlines.

  • Mechanically inclined and has experience with a variety of tools.

  • This is a minimum 40-hour workweek with Saturdays considered inclement weather make-up days.

Education & Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.

  • Painting experience preferred.

  • 5 years of driving experience.

  • Must have a clean Driving Record, free of any major moving violations within the last five years; minimal non-moving violations. Must pass BGE OQ Training.

Pre-Screen:

  • Upon offer, employees may be required to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, background, and/or MVR check.

License & Certifications:

  • Driver License Required.

Travel Requirements:

  • A valid Driver's License is required.

  • Must have a clean Driving Record, free of any major moving violations within the last five years; minimal non-moving violations.

  • Must pass BGE OQ Training.

Physical Requirements:

  • Rare (less than 10%): squatting, depth-perception, color-vision, crawling, pushing, pulling, seeing distant, climbing ladders, balancing, gripping.

  • Occasional (up to 33%): stooping, kneeling, squatting, body-twisting, sense-of-touch, manual-dexterity, lifting to 10 lbs., lifting up to 50 lbs., lifting over 10 lbs. to 50 lbs., climbing stairs, carrying, lifting, range-of-motion, reaching

  • Frequent (up to 66%): standing, walking, sitting.

  • Continuous (up to 100%): seeing, reading, hearing-speech range, speaking clearly.

Safety:

Due to the inherently dangerous nature of the industry and requirements to work with or around hazardous equipment, employees must have sufficient eyesight to judge distance/coordination of equipment and tools, be able to maintain attention and concentration for extended periods of time, be able to withstand exposure to all kinds of weather while completing work assignments, be able to wear personal protective equipment as necessary, be able to enter and exit a vehicle numerous time a day, have the endurance necessary to traverse various terrain, be capable of performing job duties throughout a standard 8- or 10-hour day, be able to communicate with others, read, write, and comprehend written/verbal job instructions and information, and communicate & handle confrontations professionally.
