Description of Work

Salary Grade: NC11 Salary Range: $42,464 to $74,313This position with NCDOT offers fullState Benefits (https://oshr.nc.gov/state-employee-resources/benefits) , competitive salaries and many career development opportunities.

The primary purpose of Location & Surveys is to serve as support services in providing engineering analysis, mapping and other data for the design of transportation facilities and the acquisition of property for the construction of transportation facilities.

We are looking for an individual to provide advanced technical work supporting higher-level technicians and engineers by serving as survey crew leader providing base mapping for highway design functions This position is located in Asheville.

In this role you will:

  • Perform tasks requiring utilization of conventional surveys, CADD equipment, and GPS.

  • Complete a wide variety of moderate to complex assignments in analyzing, computing, editing, processing, and recommending corrective actions for various data sources.

  • Review completed field data and CADD mapping prepared by a NCDOT survey party to insure completeness and accuracy.

  • Perform duties that will normally involve a wide range of decision making and use of judgment including directing the work of others.

  • Be responsible for the safety of survey crew during field operations

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

  • Experience accurately reading, comprehending, interpreting, and applying Department and Unit procedures, policies, data provided through CADD files, plans sheets, maps, as those apply to engineering and other types of land surveying.

  • Experience planning, directing, overseeing, leading the work of lower-level technicians in survey field and office work.

  • Experience working with survey equipment, i.e. total stations, GNSS receivers.

  • Experience developing maps/plans through CADD utilizing CADD software.

  • Knowledge of standards, principles, and practices of surveying in North Carolina.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or assigned discipline from an appropriately accredited institution and three (3) years of progressive technician level experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
