Description

The Maintenance Technician II- Electrician directly reports to the Facilities Manager. Responsibilities include the operation of all mechanical, electrical, and HVAC systems including the Central Boiler Plant, with an emphasis on Electrical acumen. It also includes the maintenance, all repair, and replacement of plumbing fixtures, electrical devices, HVAC equipment, and the equipment in all of the Colleges buildings and grounds department.

Essential Functions:

  • Ensures operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance on equipment, motors, tools, and any other College-owned systems by following diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, manufacturers instructions, and engineering specifications.
  • Locates sources of problems by observing electrical and mechanical devices in operation, listening for problems, and using precision measuring and testing instruments.
  • Removes defective parts by dismantling devices using specialty tools, measuring instruments, and hand and power tools.
  • Operates building electrical systems, HVAC and other controls through automated and computer controlled systems throughout the campus on multiple software programs
  • Assists with operation and maintenance of boilers and related equipment in the Central Steam Plant.
  • Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments by using hand tools and automated systems.
  • Fabricates repair parts by using shop tools, instrumentation, and equipment.
  • Maintains equipment, parts, and supplies inventories; anticipates needed equipment, parts, and supplies, places and expedites orders, and verifies receipt.
  • Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing technical publications, and establishing personal networks.
  • Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.

Qualifications

Education and Job Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Ten (10) years as an electrical tradesperson, trained mechanic, or graduate from a recognized trade school plus six (6) years experience in commercial electrical work. Journeyman License in Electrical, Plumbing, or HVAC preferred.
  • Ability to perform maintenance, repair, replacement, installation, and operations in the commercialelectrical, HVAC and plumbing trades.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid drivers license to operate College vehicles and maintain a driving record acceptable to the Colleges insurance carrier.
  • Must be able to perform all associated tasks with minimal supervision and guidance from others.
  • Experience managing work tickets in a ticketing system preferred.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

  • Work involves moving or lifting up to 50 pounds of equipment, materials, and tools.
  • Involves climbing extension ladders, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or movement within confined areas including equipment, crawl and attic spaces.
  • Must be willing and able to work in all buildings or outdoors in all seasons.
  • Must be able to operate power tools and equipment.
  • Near visual acuity for reading instructions, manuals, specifications, electrical prints and boiler operation and testing.
  • May be required to work evenings, nights and weekends.
  • Required to take on-call duty approximately once a month and must be available for emergency calls during this time.
