USG Corporation Accountant, Technical Accounting & Reporting in Chicago, Illinois

Position Overview

Reporting to the Manager of Technical Accounting and Financial Reporting, this position supports internal and external reporting and the review and evaluation of new and unusual transactions to ensure compliance with applicable accounting basis and company policies. This position also participates in the monthly accounting, review and reporting of UBBP’s IFRS financials. This individual supports the Company’s cross functional, semi-annual accounting and reporting process for asset retirement obligations and the ongoing review of routine and non-routine contracts.

Responsibilities

A focus on process improvement, teamwork, compliance and delivering results will be critical. Specific responsibilities will include but not be limited to: * Collaborates and shares responsibility of all quarterly and annual external financial reporting and works closely with external auditors to ensure their completion of an efficient audit. * Support the analysis and review of new and unusual transactions to ensure that they are recorded in compliance with applicable accounting basis and company policies. Document accounting treatment in whitepapers as required. * Participate in the monthly accounting, review and reporting of UBBP including preparation of reconciliations and identification, quantification and recording of differences between US GAAP and IFRS. * Support the monthly preparation of USG’s consolidated statement of cash flows. * Work closely with various cross-functional areas, including legal, sourcing, manufacturing and environmental, to support the semi-annual accounting review for our asset retirement obligations and the ongoing review of routine and non-routine contracts. * Develop and implement accounting process change by analyzing current procedures and recommending changes. Take initiative to continually improve efficiency in accounting and reporting processes. * Assist with ad hoc projects assigned by senior management including IT enhancements for the financial and management reporting processes, analysis of business operations, or other accounting and finance related matters. * Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations.

Candidate Profile * * In terms of the performance and personal competencies required for the position, we would highlight the following: * 3 to 5 years of experience in finance and accounting is required, in roles of increasing complexity and responsibility; * Strong knowledge of and ability to learn and apply technical accounting concepts in accordance with US GAAP, and other accounting basis; * Solid academic credentials, CPA certification is preferred or must be working towards CPA certification; * Strong analytical and technical research skills and ability to make sound business decisions in complex and ambiguous business environments; * Unquestioned integrity, moral character, ethics and values -- one whom an organization can trust without reservation; * Strong verbal and written communication skills; * Ability to drive change confidently, rapidly and effectively by influencing behavior, even in the absence of clear formal authority; * Experience with Oracle and Hyperion Financial Management preferred.
