USG Corporation Transportation Coordinator in Chicago, Illinois
The Transportation Analyst- Bulk position is responsible for Synthetic Gypsum and Rock Transportation strategy and execution for USG/CGC. Modes of Transportation include Bulk (barge, dump, marine vessel, and unit train), Stevedoring, and Transloading Services in the United States and Canada. Total expenditures managed are estimated at $50 million annually.
_KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES_
Establish policies and procedures for the management of bulk, stevedoring, and transloading freight procurement including: o Carrier Relationship Management o Freight Cost Management, Total Cost of Ownership, and Total Cost of Delivery o On-Time Delivery Management o Process Improvement through Lean Six Sigma and Lean Management Principles
For all USG/CGC facilities, identify freight requirements, including capacity and equipment needs, service requirements, and proactive resolution practices.
Negotiate all carrier rate structures, including any additional (accessorial) charges needed to support freight demand, as indicated above.
Provide support and expertise in facility infrastructure needs; specifically, infrastructure requirements including bulk, barge, unit train, and vessel loading and unloading requirements for safe and efficient loading and unloading practices.
Manage all bulk, stevedoring, and transloading transportation solutions to minimize capacity risk, while maximizing capacity flexibility, service, and cost.
Participate in industry trade groups such as MARS (Midwest Association of Rail Shippers), Traffic Club of Chicago, Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP) to further enhance USG/CGC’s relationship with all industry partners.
Establish policies to ensure a consistentbulk, stevedoring, and transloading freight procurementapproach is followed, create a significant presence for the role in managing key carrier relationships, and ensure that USG’s and CGC’s freight spend is consistently leveraged to result in optimal service and cost.
Identify, cultivate, and establish freight relationships as required to service long-term business objectives.
Identify areas for cost improvement.
_Education_ _ _ * B.A. or B.S degree (Supply Chain, Procurement, Transportation, Business, Accounting or Finance preferred)
_Years of Experience_
- 2-3 years relevant procurement, analytical, business and/or supply chain experience
Detailed knowledge of transportation management best practices.
Experience utilizing effective carrier management processes.
Experience with the bulk, barge, rail, and marine vessel transportation industry.
Strong analytical and fact-based decision-making approach.
Capable of building strong cross-functional relationships and understanding needs of internal customers.
Highly motivated and results oriented.
Effective communications skills, including written and presentation skills, with the ability to engage the organization in achieving fundamental improvements in total cost of ownership performance.
Ability to go beyond this role to a larger role within the organization.
