JBS USA FARM MANAGER-COMPASS SOW FARM| COLUMBUS JUNCTION,IA in Columbus Junction, Iowa

Essential Functions:

  • Take an active role in safety programs including following safety procedures, enforcement of policy and continued training.
  1. Perform all required duties in a timely manner as outlined in the S.O.P (Standard Operating Procedure).

  2. Monitor essential functions and responsibilities of direct reports within the farm complex.

  3. Ensure direct reports follow and enforce policies and procedures of the location with particular emphasis on biosecurity policies.

  4. Daily coordination of personnel in conjunction with direct reports to ensure work completion.

  5. In conjunction with direct reports actively monitor activities of individuals for timely hiring, evaluation, counseling, and disciplinary action according to company policy.

  6. Approve and schedule all personal time off to ensure that the complex goals and objectives are met.

  7. Ability to train and collect semen from a boar.

  8. Be a positive influence through effective listening and constant interaction of farm complex staff.

  9. Responsible for ensuring all paperwork and production information is complete, correct, and processed within an appropriate time frame. Provide Production Manager with any reports and/or production information necessary.

  10. Responsible to maintain a weekly preventative maintenance program, and effectively communicate the farm complex needs to the maintenance manager.

  11. Responsible for production meetings with direct reports to maintain company standards.

  12. Understand and demonstrate the ability to maintain production targets and objectives through inventory control, throughput, and operating expense within company guidelines.

  13. Ensure that all supplies, health aids, vaccines, and feed necessary for farm complex operations are ordered and required inventories are maintained.

  14. Coordinate necessary livestock movements in conjunction with Production Manager to maintain inventory and meet production targets.

  15. Effectively work with environment crew to ensure compliance to state and federal regulations.

  16. Responsible for the overall appearance of the farm complex, both internally and externally.

  17. Communicate and train all direct reports on company S.O.P. (Standard Operating Procedures). Provide timely follow up, inspection and reinforcement.

  18. Responsible for operating the unit within farm bio-security policy.

  19. Daily organization to accomplish all tasks within the unit.

  20. Facilitate timely actions in response to any external or internal production related reports concerning customer expectations.

  21. Effectively work to make sure both internal and external quality of product is meeting customer expectations.

  22. Responsible for maintaining proper feed management.

  23. Responsible for monitoring all direct reports time management.

  24. Responsible for the actions of their direct reports.

  25. Take responsibility for the use of ventilation controls including programming.

  26. Coordinate with boar suppliers for delivery of boars into isolation at the proper times.

  27. Inform boar isolation operator of incoming deliveries, ensure feed is available at isolation, and facilities are maintained in working order.

  28. Coordinate monthly local veterinary inspections,

  29. Ensure all required blood testing in both isolation and the boar stud are accomplished on schedule.

  30. All other duties as may be assigned.

Job Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in animal science or a related field or demonstrated expertise in swine management.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage inventory and throughput efficiently.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage people.

  • Be able to lift and move 50lbs up to 100 yards.

  • Push and/or pull a minimum of 700 lbs in a cart with wheels when required.

  • Squat to the floor, grip small objects with ease and twist at least 45 degrees.

  • Capable of repeated motions.

  • Ability to operate a computer and send reports on a weekly basis.

  • Be responsive to visible signs of animal discomfort.

  • Be responsive to verbal alarms and sounds of animals.

  • Be able to understand, retain and perform oral and written instructions in English.

  • Able to communicate orally and in writing with other employees and company contacts.

  • Be able to move, load and unload animals up to 750 pounds.

  • Ability to walk, stand and squat for long periods of time on different surfaces including concrete and slats.

  • Ability to climb in and out of crates and over obstacles.

  • Climb different types of ladders including feed bin ladders.

  • Maintain balance on all surfaces.

  • Must not own or live near any swine. Must not live with anyone who has contact with swine.

Working Conditions:

  • During summer months outside temperatures can be over 100° F for an entire scheduled workday.

  • During winter months outside temperatures can be below 0° F for an entire scheduled workday.

  • During and after heavy rains the road in and around the farms can become extremely muddy and difficult to maneuver on.

  • During different job duties the noise inside or outside barns can become very loud.

  • Will be exposed daily to odors, dusts and gases that may be uncomfortable or hazardous if proper procedures are not followed.

  • Will be exposed to electrical boxes and electrical machinery that are not to be entered or repaired by those who are not certified in basic electrical training and/or lock out tag out.

  • Will be exposed daily to procedures that may cause contact with hazardous materials.

The applicant who fills this position will be eligible for the following compensation and benefits :
