How will you make a difference?

As a member of the Energy Storage Team , you will be the regional BMS electrical focal point interfacing to adjacent subsystem’s, system’s, and manufacturing counterparts for assigned projects. This position will provide BMS Electrical Component factory support, leading the associated locomotive validation activity and have an opportunity to participate in BMS Electrical development efforts both internal and external of the region.

What do we want to know about you?

Qualifications/Requirements –

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Software Engineering

  • Minimum of 8 years of hands-on Electrical component requirement development, selection, and validation experience(fuses, contactors, diodes, inductors, manual disconnect switch, test points, voltage present indicators, DC/DC converters, and current/potential transducers)

  • Must be fluent in both English and Portuguese

Desired Characteristics -

  • Experience with AC and DC (Energy Storage) short circuit analysis (fault current derivation)

  • Experience conducting DC Fuse coordination study’s and component sizing

  • Practical understanding of analog and digital electronics circuits

  • Intermediate knowledge of industry standards and guides (NFPA 70E, EN50155, IEC/EN 61000 series, IEC62928, IEC62497)

  • Working knowledge of Wabtec locomotive controls architecture & functionality

  • Working knowledge of Battery Management System (BMS) architecture & functionality as applied to Lithium -ion Batteries

  • Practical understanding of analog and digital electronics circuits

  • Experience performing Locomotive level Validation Testing or similar level OHV or other industrial equivalent applications.

  • Prior exposure to manufacturing & lab environments

  • Strong project management skills

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills

  • Self-Starter

What will your typical day look like?

Essential Responsibilities –

  • Participate in design reviews developing and documenting validation plans,

  • Identify test equipment and test apparatus requirements and coordinate the procurement in order to execute validation

  • Provide Factory Support throughout Loco Build Lifecycle regarding Energy Storage/BMS integration

  • Lead on Loco Energy Storage/BMS Subsystem Validation (Engineering Validation/Type Testing)

  • Lead on Loco Energy Storage/BMS Subsystem Commercial Test/Routine Test definition, integration into overall Loco Commercial Test plan, and support initial execution with manufacturing personnel

  • Track, manage, and report status of development & validation efforts to various levels of the organization.

  • Identify and escalate emerging issues and offer possible mitigations/next steps

  • Develop power distribution concepts based on system level product requirements. Present concept benefits and drawbacks with recommendations for moving the design forward.

  • Lead Power System analysis, component sizing & selection, and qualification testing for energy storage system components utilized on Battery Electric Locomotives within the Energy Storage team scope.

  • Develop Energy Storage System electrical architecture and generate and maintain system schematics.

  • Prepare content and conduct design reviews for Power System architecture and key components.

  • Create and present protection coordination studies including short circuit analysis, protection/fuse coordination and component (fuses, contactors, diodes, inductors, manual disconnect switch, test points, voltage present indicators, DC/DC converters, and current/potential transducers) selection and qualification test results.

  • Create component requirement specifications, functional requirements and qualification test requirements.

  • Develop and document test plans, identify test equipment and test apparatus requirements and lead execution of test plans (coordinating with both internal and external labs). When testing identifies areas of concern, prepare and present pivot options to address the issues.

  • Lead DC Energy Storage Power System and component FMEA development and safety analysis

  • Develop reliability predictions for assigned components.
