Service 1st Federal Credit Union Jr. Information Systems Engineer in Danville, Pennsylvania

ROLE Serves as the primary technical resource on assigned projects to design, develop, and implement solutions to meet the credit union's needs. Writes and maintains documentation within the department and is responsible for maintaining an overall knowledge of Information Systems (IS) functions and policies. Provides general technical support to maintain the efficiency and function of information systems.

This position is eligible for a hybrid work from home schedule, as set and approved by the position's manager in accordance with the credit union's Remote Work policy.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • 25% - Provides informed, professional and accurate service and support to all members, associates and users of the credit union's information systems in a timely manner.
  • 25% - Runs projects of moderate scope and assists on large projects. Creates scripts using Python, PowerShell, or other scripting languages to generate reports, data extracts, and automate processes as required to complete project deliverables.
  • 15% - Participates in the Information Systems department rotation of daily duties and rotation of responding to calls after hours.
  • 15% - Assists the Information Systems department members, as required, in the completion of the functions and duties assigned to those respective positions.
  • 10% - Maintains a solid understanding of current information system technologies and credit union regulations for the purpose of research, implementation, and maintenance of new and evolving systems.
  • 10% - Carries out assigned responsibilities and additional functions as required according to established department and credit union standards.

Performance Measurements:

  1. Maintains a solid understanding of current information system technologies and credit union regulations for the purpose of research, implementation, and maintenance of new and evolving systems.
  2. Assists in the review, recommendation, and implementation of new systems, new third party system interfaces and system enhancements. Interacts with partners and vendors to ensure credit union's needs are met.
  3. Participates in the Information Systems department rotation of daily duties and rotation of responding to calls after hours.
  4. Provides informed, professional and accurate service and support to all members, associates and users of the credit union's information systems in a timely manner. Installs, tests, maintains, and troubleshoots software and hardware.
  5. Acts as primary technical contact with assigned vendors for issues, requests, and projects. Manages and maintains good working relationships with assigned vendors.
  6. Runs projects of moderate scope and completes assigned tasks of larger projects.
  7. Develops reports, custom extracts, and automations using Python, PowerShell, or other industry standard languages. Works in core processor to create Specfiles and SymForms to meet credit union needs.
  8. Provides information systems training for credit union employees, as directed.
  9. Assists the Information Systems department members, as required, in the completion of the functions and duties assigned to those respective positions.
  10. Creates procedures for staff or other IS team members to follow. Documents system configurations, procedures, and baselines to ensure minimal troubleshooting or rebuilding. Maintain notes in ticketing system to document actions taken in the completion of tasks.
  11. Install, troubleshoot, and repair software and hardware deployed or utilized by the credit union including core processing system, printers, phones, and other equipment supported by the Information Systems department.
  12. Assists the department by reviewing daily, month-end, quarterly and annual processing schedules for accuracy and completeness.
  13. Researches and monitors industry changes and technology advancements and make recommendations for updates and modifications to keep the Credit Union's i formation systems current and in compliance.
  14. Carries out assigned responsibilities and additional functions as required according to established department and credit union standards.
  15. Travel throughout the market area to visit branch locations and provide in-person support as needed.
  16. Participate in training and professional development activities to acquire and maintain standards established by the credit union. This could include attending conferences, seminars and workshops as directed by management.
  17. Maintains a complete understanding of credit union policies, procedures and guidelines set forth by the credit union. e.g. Employee Handbook; Security Policy and Security Handbook; Bank Secrecy Act; Confidentiality Policy; Fraud Policy; Internal Controls; Information Security Policy; Records Preservation Policy; Active Directory Account, Change Management and Patch Management Procedures; Vulnerability Management Policy.

Knowledge and Skills:

Experience: Three years to five years of similar or related experience. Experience with the credit union's core processor is preferred.

Education: (1) A two-year college degree in Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field or (2) completion of a relevant and specialized course of study at a business or trade school, (3) Equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Interpersonal Skills: Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization for the purpose of first-level conflict resolution, building relationships, and soliciting cooperation. Discussions involve a higher degree of confidentiality and discretion, requiring diplomacy and tact in communication.

Other Skills: Knowledge of Windows operating systems, Active Directory. general programming, and network communications is required. Must be able to work and travel independently and use general office equipment. Must have good communication skills. Must have strong technical and analytical skills. Must have working knowledge of Information Systems principles, practices and procedures. Intermediate mathematical skills (calculations and concepts involving decimals, percentages, fractions, etc.) are required.

Physical Requirements

  • Requires exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally to move objects.
  • Involves sitting most of the time. Walking and standing are required occasionally 
  • Repetitive finger movements to perform typing or otherwise working with paper files and documents.
  • Requires close visual acuity to prepare and analyze data and figures; view a computer terminal; read and assess work quality.

Work Environment

- Not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.

  • State of Pennsylvania residency required.

  • Position is eligible for a hybrid work from home schedule, as set and approved by the positions manager in accordance with the credit union's Remote Work policy. In order to be approved to work from home, a cable modem or fiber internet connection is required which must have minimum service speed of 10M download / 2M upload, with less than 1% packet loss. Internet service and modem are the employee's expense.
