Service 1st Federal Credit Union Operations Specialist in Danville, Pennsylvania

  • Full Time - 40 Hours Per Week
  • Monday through Friday Availability Required
  • Hybrid/Remote Work Eligible after 1 year of employment and supervisor approval.

Role: An Operations Specialist's primary responsibility is to ensure high quality operations support is maintained for the staff and members. To accomplish this, the operations specialist performs various routine, clerical and research duties in regards to, but not limited to, electronic services and payments including ACH, credit card and debit card processing, ATM transaction processing, digital banking and online/mobile deposit, overdraft and return items processing, gift card program, Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs) and automated payroll functions. Researches and responds to inquiries from staff, departments and/or vendors to resolve a variety of issues that pertain to operations. Responsible for performing the duties of Membership Officer, which conducts membership audits of new memberships and verifies documentation. All Operations Specialists are required to be able to perform all functions of the position but the daily activity of each specialist may be varied based on specific roles they play in the department.

This position is eligible for a hybrid work from home schedule, as set and approved by the positions manager in accordance with the credit union's Remote Work policy.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • 35% - Responsible for the efficient and accurate processing of various electronic related functions while ensuring compliance with regulations. This includes processing incoming and outgoing ACH transactions, share drafts, business ACH origination, bill payer, wire transfers, remote deposit services, ATM deposits, overdraft and return items.
  • 35% - Manage and oversee various aspects of card-based products, such as credit cards, debit cards, and gift cards. Stay up-to-date with card industry regulations and standards such as Visa rules. Investigate and resolve cardholder disputes, chargebacks, and claims working with our card processor to reach resolution while maintaining Reg E compliance.
  • 15% - Provide assistance to internal and external members to ensure a high level of member service. Including inquires, disputes, and resolving issues related to all electronic and payment transactions.
  • 10% - Serve as the administrator for Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs) operations process. Provide expert support to staff, audit all IRA and HSA transactions with documentation, complete annual filing and ensure compliance with IRS regulations.
  • 5% - Performs other duties as assigned.

Performance Measurements:

  1. Performs ACH duties including setting up accounts, clearing exceptions, returning Non-sufficient Funds (NSFs) and checking addendum and pre-notes.
  2. Performs daily processing of items originated by members using digital banking services, bill payer and ACH originations.
  3. Processes mobile/remote deposit service deposits. Reviews, deposits, processes and ensures all check information was captured correctly by the member (if necessary). Monitors the service for fraudulent activity. Provides follow up to the member as needed.
  4. Processes and serves as the primary contact for Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs). Ensures documentation and procedures for IRAs are in compliance with the IRS requirements and regulations.
  5. Processes wire transfer requests.
  6. Serves as the day to day contact for the gift card program, while maintaining the inventory and system for all credit union branches.
  7. Handles all aspects of the card services processing including daily maintenance, handling disputes, coordinating reporting and procedures, VISA servicing function and performs daily maintenance to accounts.
  8. Scan documents into Imaging System as required.
  9. Performs the duties as the Membership Officer, audits new membership accounts. Follows up with employee responsib e for opening the membership account to obtain proper documentation as needed. Compiles data for monthly and quarterly membership reports. Also completes IRS TIN matching checks.
  10. Processes payroll for SEGs and serves as the primary contact for training, questions or concerns.
  11. Performs operations duties of the overdraft privilege manager.
  12. Processes the daily return items including representment of NSF items and involvement of the collections department when necessary. Maintains a log to track return items and addresses potential check cashing policy issues.
  13. Process cash ordering function for the credit union.
  14. Understand and perform functions related to emerging digital payment technologies while managing multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously.
  15. Assist in identifying continuous improvement areas and adjusts processes to maintain efficient operations and high-quality service.
  16. Prepares monthly reports associated with the operations department.
  17. Maintain a working knowledge level of compliance and regulations around ACH payments and NACHA.
  18. Participate in training and professional development activities to acquire and maintain standards established by the credit union. This could include attending conferences, seminars and workshops as directed by Management.
  19. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Experience - Requires three years to five years of similar or related experience in a credit union or banking environment.

Education - Requires completion of a high school education or equivalent.

Interpersonal Skills - Work involves contact with persons beyond immediate associates regarding routine matters for the purpose of giving or obtaining information which may require some discussion. Outside contacts take the form of service to the public (members or vendors), requiring ordinary courtesy in providing assistance and information.

  • Must acquire and maintain a thorough understanding of credit union policies and procedures pertaining to the functions performed within the department.

Physical Requirements

  • Exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
