DRAFTING ENGINEER INTERNSHIP Learn and gain valuable experience in a key role in the design of the exterior facade on large, commercial buildings, including the application of basic building science principles. The engineering department works with the sales and design teams to review projects for appropriate product application, structural capacity and facade integration. This requires a wide variety of knowledge and key understanding to the fundamentals of exterior wall design and how all components of the assembly must work in concert. This includes general code requirements, air and moisture control layers, thermal control layers and the structural support of the facade. In addition to design assist, the engineering department will coordinate with outside vendors to provide project specific design calculations, draft drawings and work with production to generate fabrication drawings of components for manufacture. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES These duties are those typically performed in this position. Execute requested technical modeling and drawings based on projects specific requirements, specifications and/or calculations for engineering review Provide innovative, constructible and manufacturable design concepts and solutions Ensure all completed drawings are accurate prior to review Provide technical review and interpretation of blueprints as needed Respond to technical written inquires via email Evaluate KWS product integration onto projects Plan and spec review for designers and sales team Review project specific product application including structural capacities for quoting purposes Quality control / Technical review of Sales Orders Create fabrication drawings and models for shop floor controls Research and stay up-to-date with building codes REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND EDUCATION The following generally describes the knowledge and ability required to enter the job and/or learned within a short period of time to successfully perform the assigned duties. 3rd or 4th Year student working towards degree in Construction management / Civil or Mechanical Engineering Strong knowledge or desire to learn/work in building materials and building science, including future employment with Knight Motivated, hardworking, problem solver, attention to detail and well organized Computer skills, including MS Office, AutoCAD and 3D Modeling JOB AND COMPANY BENEFITS Top of market hourly rate DOE+ 401(k) with Employer match Paid sick leave Stable, family owned and operated business that focuses on the value of our employees Knight Wall Systems, Inc. is an equal opportunity employer.
