Job Summary

The Signals and Communication, Senior Manager - Maintenance is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day maintenance and inspection activities of signal systems, crossing systems, and critical voice and data communication systems over a designated region. The incumbent carries out field audits, testing and inspection reviews to ensure that the work meets CN standards and is completed as per established guidelines and regulations.

Main Responsibilities

Oversee Daily Maintenance

· Ensure maintenance and inspection activities are completed on time, meet CN standards as well as Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) and Transport Canada (TC) regulations

· Participate in weekly calls to discuss regional issues or concerns and ensure alignment with related stakeholders

· Monitor maintenance operating and capital project budgets and milestones

· Observe working habits of maintenance personnel in the field to guarantee

on-track and operating rules are followed, and that protective equipment is worn at all times

· Coach and train Managers and Supervisors

People Management

· Establish direct reports objectives and carry out regular touch-base meetings

· Provide guidance, support, coaching and feedback to all direct reports

· Exercise leadership to improve employee engagement, performance, and productivity, and be held accountable through audits and scorecards

· Ensure compliance with safety engagement targets as well as required safety training in order to reduce injuries and accidents

· Review grievances, investigate claims and work with the Labour Relations (LR) team for arbitrations

Derailments and Disruptions

· Participate in activities related to derailments and disruptions in service, while working with Transportation, Operations, and Mechanical departments to determine causes and future prevention

Working Conditions

The role is performed in a combination of office and outdoor environments is various weather conditions with the regular workweek from Monday to Friday. The role must be available on-call to respond to service disruptions and emergencies. Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure, and stress. The role requires regular travel (50%) across the territory to Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia.

Requirements

Experience

Signals and Communications

· Minimum 6 years of experience in Signals and Communications (S&C)

o Minimum 2 years of experience in a S&C management position

o Experience in railroad communication

Education/Certification/Designation

· High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED)

· Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering*

· 2-Year Technical Degree*

*Any designation for these above would be considered as an asset

Technical Skills/Knowledge

· Extensive working knowledge of S&C equipment

· Knowledge of FRA and TC regulations

· S&C General Instructions (GI) Rules and Standard Codes of Practice

· Knowledge of S&C Inspection System (SCIS), Systems Applications and Products (SAP), and Electronic Track Occupancy Permit (ETOP)
