U.S. Army Medical Command Specimen Controller (Forensic) in Fort Meade, Maryland

Summary About the Position: Serves as a Specimen Controller assigned to the Forensic Toxicology Drug Testing Laboratory, an organization providing support for the overall substance abuse program for the United States Army and Department of Defense. Position is being filled at the GS-06 target GS-07 level. Duties described reflect the full performance GS-07 level. Duties will be performed in a developmental capacity under close supervision. Responsibilities Performs mutual quality control checks on the work of fellow Specimen Controllers on a daily basis. Responsible for performance of technical and administrative support functions necessary for successful unit mission accomplishment. Performs a wide variety of detail-oriented technical and administrative duties in a narrow specialty area of a scientific field. Uses a computer, in support of the specimen accessioning and handling. Functions include, but are not limited to specimen handling and storing, laboratory operations, administrative and logistical support. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Utilizing a computer to record, store, and retrieve medical information; 2) Sending customer inquiries to the appropriate personnel; and 3) Taking inventory of specified items to ensure accuracy of reports.. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Chemistry Communications Technical Competence Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct Deposit of Pay is required. Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs is not authorized, based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government interest. This position involves a multi-grade career ladder. At the GS-06 grade level, you will perform assignments of a more limited scope and with less independence. You will progressively acquire the background necessary to perform at the full performance level of GS-07. Promotion is at the discretion of the supervisor and is contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of higher level work, and availability of funds.
