MD Anderson Cancer Center Assistant Manager, Nurse - Proton Therapy Center in Houston, Texas

Assistant Nurse Manager Proton Therapy Center: Services - Head & Neck, GI, Thoracic, Pediatrics/CNS.

Shift: primarily day, may require early AM and evenings reflective of operations.

Function Assists in overall operations and the coordination of patient care services.

Scope Impacts the patient care and daily operations of assigned patient care area.

Essential Job Functions Utilizes clinical expertise to monitor and correlate acuity and patient profiles to area staffing needs, assignments and budget. Plans and evaluates area compliance with institutional/regulatory policies and procedures. Formulates practical recommendations regarding daily operational procedures and practices. Provides management assistance through the assurance of appropriate staffing, performance improvement activities, compliance with budgetary guidelines and human resources processes. Ensures scheduling and assignment/reassignment of staff meet the needs of the patient. Participates in hiring and performance management of employees. Contributes to the strategic and financial planning of the area. Supports a high level of clinical competence and professional development for staff. Provides direct patient care approximately 50% of the time.

Education

Required: Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

Experience

Required: Three years of clinical nursing experience. Successful completion of the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center New Graduate Nurse Residency Program can be substituted for two of the three required years of clinical nursing experience.

Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.

Certification/Licensure

Required: Current State of Texas Professional Nursing license (RN). Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALs) obtained within 3 months after completion of successful orientation..

Preferred: 3 years of clinical nursing experience with some oncology background . Ability to access IVs and port-a-caths (PAC) a plus for contrast simulation patients; will train as needed.
