This is a FULL TIME ROLE that pays $41,808.00 annually.

Job Summary

Provides health and medical related assistance to newly arrived refugees in accordance with all applicable contractual standards

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain current knowledge of, and coordinate medical screenings and health education services for refugees within ninety days of arrival.

  • Assist in providing accurate translation of medical/health related material; arrange for interpretation in medical settings.

  • Act as liaison between refugees, Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), county health departments, and other medical service providers.

  • Provide follow-up services for refugees referred for special treatment or placement on a preventive treatment regimen; assure compliance to health treatment plans.

  • Research and educate refugees regarding current health issues and trends within community.

  • Serve as agency expert on local health services including DHS and Social Security health benefits.

  • Work collaboratively with referral sources, agencies, institutions, and individuals who have important roles in clients' health.

  • Complete all appropriate documentation and reporting in accordance with required time frames; maintain same in center's case files.

  • Engage in careful record-keeping with regards to referrals, appointments, and medical plans for clients. Adhere to HIPAA standards and ensure confidentiality.

  • Transport clients to appointments as needed, including urgent care or emergency room needs. Assist in arranging childcare and transportation services as they relate to medical appointments.

  • Conduct health education home visits.

  • Solicit professional volunteer assistance from community as needed.


Job Qualifications

Education, Training, and Licensure/Certification

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Medical Case Management, public health, nonprofit administration, or related field preferred, or equivalent experience working with refugees or other vulnerable populations.

    Experience

  • Minimum one year in refugee-related casework and/or health or community services.

    Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to speak, read and write fluent English.

  • Strong interpersonal skill with ability and willingness to work with refugees. Ability to demonstrate cross cultural sensitivity, compassion and patience towards persons served.

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of the needs of refugee services.

  • Excellent written and verbal skills. Strong public speaking/presentation skills.

  • Ability to relate creatively to representatives of various companies, community organizations, and government agencies.

  • Ability to identify needs, interests, aptitudes, skills, and problems.

  • Ability to refer clients to appropriate support services, agencies, and programs.

  • Ability and willingness to work as part of a team in achieving common goals.

    A dditional Work Requirements

  • Automobile travel required.

  • Valid unrestricted driver's license with good driving record and reliable personal transportation suitable for safely transporting clients. Valid proof of automobile insurance.

    Physical and Mental Requirements

  • Stands and moves about indoors and outdoors.

  • Stoops, bends, twists, and frequently lifts supplies up to 25 lbs.

  • Hand-eye coordination.

  • Hand and finger dexterity.
