About the Role:

Bowery Farming is seeking a Contract Laboratory Coordinator in our Kearny R&D Facility to build, maintain, and execute laboratory (Plant Pathology) methods, troubleshoot problems in the lab, and report results. This position will be part of the Agricultural Sciences team, and work closely with Plant Pathologists, Scientists and R&D Operations team members. This role will support Bowery’s monitoring of production farms and R&D projects that expands the company's product portfolio and drive system, yield, and quality improvements. Additionally, this position will work with cross-functional teams across Bowery including Agricultural Operations. The schedule for this position is Mon-Fri, with the potential for occasional weekend support.

What You'll Do:

  • Coordinating and executing laboratory sample processing of material from R&D Facilities and production farms in Bowery’s network

  • Independently oversee the sample management of the laboratory, including sample reception, sample metadata, assign the correct analysis based on experimental needs, report accurate results, and identify samples that need to be repeated.

  • Oversee adherence to sample process methodology as per plant pathologists instructions and documented SOPs

  • Assist process improvements and development of SOPs for new methods of sample processing in collaboration and with guidance of Plant Pathologists

  • Work with R&D Operations Management to coordinate and oversee assistance from the R&D Operations team to execute lab tasks depending on sample processing workload

  • Assist with training of R&D operations team for execution of lab-related tasks

  • Organize, manage, order and keep inventory of lab consumables

  • Manage sample shipments to R&D Facility lab and external collaborators/vendors

  • Schedule preventative maintenance and calibration of scientific equipment with internal and external service providers

Who You Are:

  • You have experience working in a laboratory setting and are familiar with following SOPs

  • You are comfortable with the operation of laboratory equipment including micropipettes, autoclave, microscope, etc.

  • You are detail oriented and have excellent organizational skills.

  • Ability to work independently in a highly collaborative team environment

  • You have experience working in the Google suite, and are comfortable with organizing information in spreadsheets

  • You have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

  • You have an inquisitive mind and are a self-starter, not afraid of independent thinking or asking questions

    The salary for this contract role will be equivalent to $50,000 (plus OT for any hours worked beyond 40).
