Packaging is an integral functional element for all our product lines, impacting all phases of the supply chain. In this position, you have the potential to become part of a highly motivated and collaborative team of packaging engineers, technical writers and artists, taking a leadership role in driving all aspects of the packaging development process. You will be interacting with multiple disciplines, including product managers, product engineers, manufacturing facilities, suppliers, customers, and various other functional departments with the added benefit of being exposed to a variety of products across our business units. You will leverage your engineering skillset and experience to deliver optimal packaging solutions, while making a positive impact in our global sustainability objectives. This position is responsible for the management of the packaging development process for new products and product variations and executing all packaging related activities, including design, system, and documentation requirements; creation of packaging engineering drawings; defining and driving packaging development schedules; supporting role for various packaging functions. Responsibilities Review and processing of new product packaging requests initiated by Business Units, including defining structural, performance, and system requirements. Adhering to set product launch schedules. Design of packaging structures (boxes, cards, clamshells, displays, etc.) for form, fit and function to fulfill product, customer, production, and shipping requirements. Leveraging supplier expertise in the design of packaging for production efficiency and cost optimization. Working with production facility personnel for design validation of new designs created. Creation of packaging engineering drawings for cartons, blisters, clamshells and various other packaging components required for the pack out of products. Understanding of materials and strength requirements to protect the products during transportation to assure delivery of intact product, including sustainability impact. Defining packaging transportation performance testing requirements (ISTA, Small Parcel, ASTM). Defining Oracle EBS system part number, BOM, and packaging attribute requirements. Management and control of UPCs and other barcodes per GS1 industry standards. Update of applicable packaging system fields (UPCs, pack modes, standard packs, pack type, pallet schemes, etc.). Directing manufacturing facilities in the update of system packaging requirements. Support in the creation and maintenance of packaging procedures to support our certified Quality Management System (QMS). Support the research, review, and recommendation of new packaging equipment or systems to improve the overall efficiency of production as it relates to packaging of products. Support in the training of personnel on packaging system functionality and requirements. Creation of PowerPoint presentations and training materials to support training needs. Support cost saving projects through design, material, and equipment improvements Qualifications Proficiency with SolidWorks CAD program Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite layout programs Knowledge of palletization and barcoding software functionality Project management skills, including ability to lead multi-personnel project teams Solution oriented with ability to think creatively, be attentive to detail and highly organized Must exercise judgment in time management and work prioritization with minimal supervision Education & Experience Degree in Engineering (BS in Mechanical or Packaging) required Minimum 4 years of Packaging Engineering experience or similar Experience in packaging design and material types Experience with packaging production, assembly equipment, and materials Experience in mechanical drafting using SolidWorks CAD software or equivalent Experience in ERP systems is desired Experience creating reports, databases, and metrics using standard software (MS Office) Experience creating processes and procedures compliant to industry standards (ISO) Experience with packaging materials and their sustainability and environmental impacts Travel Up to 10% What We Offer Comprehensive benefits include: Medical, dental, and vision insurance programs 401K plans with employer-matching contributions Tuition reimbursement PTO Paid holidays Volunteer time off For more information about benefits, please go to: https://careers.leviton.com/benefits Leviton is an EEO/AA Employer.
