NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation Trade Generalist in Nassau and Suffolk, New York

Trade Generalist: The Trades Generalist will be responsible for a primary trade in one of the following: carpentry; plumbing; electric; motor equipment; small engine repair or masonry. Trades Generalists across the various trades have one responsibility in common and that is performing a variety of skilled and semiskilled maintenance, repair, installation, and construction tasks in the mechanical, building, motor equipment and electrical trades. Duties include but are not limited to:

Plans, designs, and performs all required maintenance work; building and repair of small structures, painting, window and door repairs, roofing, basic plumbing, etc. Prioritize repair projects to meet the immediate needs of the park. May draw rough sketches or prepare plans to scale to accomplish projects as required. Responsible for maintaining adequate levels of supplies, tools, and equipment to accomplish tasks. Operate light trucks, plow trucks, tractors, loaders, sit down mowers, UTV's and other equipment as required. Use and maintain various equipment such as generators, power washer, power saws, line trimmers, mowers, etc. Operate and maintain chainsaws for tree removal and storm clean up, compile tree report, willing to attend chainsaw training (Game of Logging 1 &2) and obtain first aid and CPR/AED certification. River maintenance including removal of fallen trees and river grass. Repair or replace platforms, etc. Conduct mandatory OSHA and Facility inspections, reporting to Regional Health and Safety office by deadlines, attend Regional Safety meetings. Train and supervise subordinate staff in the safe use and maintenance of large and small equipment including ride on mowers, tractors, plow trucks, chainsaws, hand tools, etc. Conduct safety and maintenance inspections of facility, corrects problems where possible and make requests to supervisor for appropriate skilled trades assistance when needed. Fleet management-responsible for timely preventive maintenance and repairs on vehicles and equipment. General area maintenance including but not limited to litter control, pruning, grounds upkeep and landscaping, snow and ice control, and facility restrooms (supplies and cleanliness). Assist as necessary with essential office needs. Assume responsibility and acts as supervisor in the absence of the Park Manager and Park

Supervisor 2 which may include performing the duties of opening and or closing the facility. Perform other duties as required.
