Job Description:

The mission of the New York City Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in New York City by working in partnership with the community to enforce the law, preserve peace, protect the people, reduce fear, and maintain order. The NYPD strives to foster a safe and fair city by incorporating Neighborhood Policing into all facets of Department operations, and solve the problems that create crime and disorder through an interdependent relationship between the people and its police, and by pioneering strategic innovation.

The Building Maintenance Section (BMS) is responsible for the repair and maintenance of over 250 Department facilities citywide. In 2022. BMS had 23,293 work orders and responds to emergencies 24 hours per day, while also being responsible for numerous and varied command build-outs that supported Department initiatives.

The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

-Assists in the installation, maintenance and repair of piping and equipment in air, steam and hot water heating, air conditioning and processing systems.

-Assists in the installation of boilers, and feedwater, vacuum and condensate equipment. -Assists in the installation of fuel ci0 piping and related equipment

-Assists in taking on-the-job measurements and lays out work from plans, specifications and/or sketches.

-May drive a motor vehicle in the performance of assigned duties

Work Location: 59-06 Laurel Hill Blvd., Queens, NY

Work Schedule: 7 AM - 3 PM

Qualifications

  1. Three years of full-time satisfactory mechanical experience as a Steam Fitter’s Helper acquired within the last 10 years; or

  2. At least one and one-half years of full-time satisfactory mechanical experience as a Steam Fitter’s Helper acquired within the last 10 years plus sufficient training of a relevant nature acquired in an approved trade, vocational or technical high school to make up the equivalent of three years of acceptable experience. Six months of acceptable experience will be credited for each year of approved trade, vocational or technical school.
