The Role

Designs components or portions of systems and modifies existing designs to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations. Utilizes computer-aided design equipment and/or graphic tools such as, CAD, CAM, NX, or CATIA. Gathers information, makes studies, computes calculations, and prepares original rough layouts, sketches to present design proposal. Coordinates design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning group such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials, and contractual specifications. Exclude classifications in which incumbents predominantly perform drafting assignments.

This position is for an Electrical Designer 3 role for the Submarine Engineering – Advanced Capabilities team in Department E35, specifically for the Propulsion Plant (PP) design of SSN(X). Candidates should be prepared to work in a collaborative environment with E35 and E11 Engineering and Design personnel, as well as with Electric Boat during the SSN(X) conceptual and design phases of the program. The selected candidate will support PP Electrical Design studies for future US Navy Attack Submarines. The candidate will also be responsible for supporting technology research and development studies to influence the future of US Navy Submarines.

This position will be responsible for supporting other Electrical Designers and Engineers in various ship design studies. The applicant must have the ability to support these teams through design development and evaluations, and be able to solve complex spatial integration issues while meeting system and overall ship requirements, translate operational capabilities and technology selections into workable 3D product model arrangements.

Must Have

Associate's Degree and 3 years of relevant experience

One of the following may be used as equivalent to Associate's Degree to meet minimum qualifications:

• NNS Apprentice School graduate

• Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate

• High School/GED and 2 years of related Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience

• High School/GED and 4 years of non-related Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience

Nice to Have

• Knowledge of US Navy Submarine Electrical systems, requirements, system integration, and arrangement best practices is preferred.

• Design knowledge and experience across multiple Submarine platforms or other Navy ship programs, as well as experience in interpreting production drawings and technical manuals and documents is preferred.

• Knowledge and experience using Siemens NX and Teamcenter is preferred.
