Project Overview

Bechtel National, Inc. (BNI), Bechtel’s government services business, is one of the top providers to departments and agencies of the U.S. and British governments. Its successes include many large, first-of-a-kind projects in government site management, environmental restoration, defense, space, energy, and national and homeland security. This position will provide support to the Uranium Processing Facility (UPF) located at the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

UPF will be a first-of-its-kind complex for enriched uranium operations in support of Y-12 missions. UPF is one of the Department of Energy’s largest investments in Tennessee since the Manhattan Project and one of the National Nuclear Security Administration’s largest construction projects. When complete, UPF will: replace a 70-year-old facility with modern buildings, reduce operational costs and energy consumption, improve worker safety, and provide enriched uranium capabilities well into the future.

The UPF project currently works on a 4X10 work week schedule. Start times are flexible but the standard work week is: Monday - Thursday from 6:00 am to 4:30 pm or Tuesday Friday from 6:00 am to 4:30.

There is the potential to work overtime (including weekends) to support project needs.

Eligibility for this position requires US citizenship; successful candidate must provide proof of US citizenship in order to obtain badge access to the site. Candidate must complete security questionnaire and successfully clear site access requirements check. All employees are subject and agree to random drug and alcohol testing as a condition of employment. Must be able to obtain a security clearance, as applicable.

Position Summary

Responsible for Environmental, Safety & Health (ES&H) statistical reporting for projects, global business unit (GBU) and/or ES&H function requiring an ability to gather, sort, analyze and determine trends based on the data gathered. Contributes to the development and improvement of processes, procedures, methodologies and systems relevant to statistical reporting, including preparation of appropriate documentation, reports, and/or spreadsheets. Undertakes the technical aspects of processing information and data analysis in areas relevant to a project, GBU and/or ES&H function. #LI-EH1

Responsibilities

  • Supports environmental, safety, and health (ESH) processes and actions to enhance ESH program implementation.

  • Supports preparation of training plans and courses that relate to contracted scopes of work and Bechtel's ESH standards.

  • Works with subject matter experts to review training materials and awareness strategies.

  • Supports classroom and instructor-led courses, hands-on training (e.g., hazard school), printed media, and other methods to promote knowledge and awareness of all three ESH disciplines.

  • Helps coordinate the Craft-Based Leadership program and associated training, recordkeeping, and information dissemination.

  • Applies Bechtel’s ESH Management System and associated tools to achieve continual improvement.

  • Helps identify ESH stakeholders and tailor training and communication campaigns considering risk assessments, demographics, trades, languages, and other factors.

  • Interfaces with an approved third-party vendor when necessary for training materials and translation services.

  • Assists with data management, report preparation, presentations, EHS performance assessments, and trend analysis.

  • Reviews data from risk assessments, audits, and incidents to identify opportunities to help improve training, communication, procedures and processes, and control and mitigation measures.

Qualifications and Skills

Basic Qualifications

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) related to environmental, safety, health, education, or a science-related discipline and less than 1 year of relevant experience or 4-5 years of relevant work experience

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.

  • Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check which includes verification of employment and education.

  • Must be able to obtain site security badge for access to work site
