JOB REQUIREMENTS: This position is responsible for repairing, replacing and maintaining water services, mains, hydrants, valves and valve boxes. After a training period, employees in this position must have the ability to do the work without immediate supervision. Specific duties normal for this position are: Perform work relating to the installation and repair of water mains, laterals, fire hydrants, and valves. Make water service taps, assist in making cut-ins, and classify soil. Remove, test, repair, reset and install water meters, locate stop boxes, and check for leaks and stoppages. Respond to citizen complaints regarding water bills, leaks, frozen or malfunctioning meters, and related matters. Perform water service turn on and turn off. Thaw water services and water meters. Flush hydrants, and exercise water valves. Respond to after hour call-ins to assist in repairing water main breaks, service leaks, or related work. Operate equipment used in the construction and maintenance of water works facilities. Complete paperwork pertaining to work assignments. ***** OTHER EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: Two (2) years of experience in water distribution system maintenance, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods of time. Good knowledge of occupational hazards and safe work practices. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with coworkers, supervisors and the general public.
