Great Prairie Area Education Agency Audiometrist in Ottumwa, Iowa

Great Prairie Area Education Agency has an opening for an Audiometrist.

181-day contract (7-hour days) beginning with the 2024-2025 school year.

Starting pay: $15.67-$16.17/hour with a generous paid leave package in addition to a monthly cafeteria plan allotment of $828.20 and IPERS retirement.

Region 3: Cardinal,

Region 4: Fairfield, Maharishi, Mediapolis, Morning Sun, Mt. Pleasant, WACO, Wapello and Winfield-Mt. Union.

Region 5: Burlington, Burlington Notre-Dame, Danville, New London, and West Burlington.

Position Overview:

The audiometrist shall provide hearing screening and other specific activities as identified in Agency Procedures and as assigned by the audiologist. The audiometrist may provide pure-tone threshold evaluations if under the guidance/direction of an audiologist and necessary additional training has been completed. With appropriate training, the audiometrist may engage in other tasks that are planned and delegated by the audiologist.

Qualifications:

The candidate must have the experience or capacity to demonstrate the following:

  • Positive interpersonal skills.

  • Cooperative teamwork.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication.

  • Good understanding and able to use Microsoft Office including Excel and Word.

  • Will be able and willing to learn additional computer programs.

  • Willing to work with children ages 0-21 years.

  • Can carry 20+ pounds of equipment on a frequent basis.

  • Holds a valid drivers license.

  • Has a reliable car.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Good problem-solver.

  • Can work independently.

  • Good at multi-tasking.

  • Good organizational skills.

Responsibilities:

  1. Administer individual pure tone hearing screenings to students in assigned schools.

  2. Assist audiologist in administering hearing assessments.

  3. Perform clerical duties involved in maintaining record/files and scheduling for the department.

  4. Refer any unusual or difficult testing situation and/or school personnel problems to the school audiologist. Exhibit willingness to learn use of new equipment and procedures.

  5. Practice confidentiality.

  6. Maintain data required for use in local school district (LEA), AEA, state and federal reporting.

  7. Maintain confidentiality of all student information.

  8. Comply with State and Federal rules and regulations and AEA policies and procedures.

  9. Assume such other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Regional Director.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to travel between schools/sites served.

  • Normal, routine levels of activity related to bending, carrying, climbing, hearing, lifting, reaching, sitting, standing, vision and walking, and may also involve above-average levels of activity at times that can't always be anticipated.
