Vehicle Electronic Technician (7687)

NOTE: Positions are located within our Woodland and Midvale shops

 

Compensation Data - Wage rate: $35.19/hr. Increase to $39.10 after one year

 

OVERALL DESCRIPTION

Under the direct supervision of the Senior Project Manager -- Vehicle Technology, diagnosis, repairs mechanical, electrical, electronic and logic equipment; performs road tests, prepares reports; uses pertinent shop tools and equipment.

 

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conducts diagnostic tests using equipment such as oscilloscope, diagnostic tester, computer, various meters, integrated circuits, transistors and SCR testers, capacitor tester and megger.
  • Interprets current and voltage waveforms and graphs.
  • Performs operational tests on GPS, Announcement, Signage, Video Surveillance, propulsion and charging system (including road tests) to determine cause of malfunction; makes necessary repairs, adjustments and reports.
  • Inspects, removes, disassembles, cleans, repairs reassembles, adjusts, and tests modules and associated devices.
  • Monitors proper handling, removal and installation of modules; reports improper handling to Shop Superintendent.
  • Reads, interprets, and works from drawings, schematics, instructions, parts manuals.
  • Interprets circuit configurations and integrated circuit logic flow diagrams.
  • Replaces and repairs wiring and connectors.
  • Determines spare parts requirements; prepares requisitions using manuals, parts lists, etc.; maintains inventory records.
  • Cleans, organizes, and clears work area following static free regulations of wiping down benches and mopping floors.
  • Maintains log of modules repaired; Evaluates effectiveness of repairs through various diagnostic tests; accomplishes other reports and records as necessary.
  • Improvises parts when replacement parts are unavailable.
  • Uses all tools and equipment pertinent to the occupation.
  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Knowledge of operation, testing, repairing of Microprocessor based electronic and logic equipment as acquired in technical school (2 years) or it's equivalent. Must have at least 2 years related experience, be proficient in working from and making mechanical, electrical, electronic, logic drawings and schematics. Must successfully complete vehicle operations courses, manufacturers or SEPTA courses as required. 

Must become familiar with equipment used, functions and names of items processed; must acquire skill in the safe and proper use of shop and test equipment, and knowledge of Authority and departmental rules and regulations.

EQUIPMENT USED: Various testing equipment such as oscilloscope, meters, SCR tester, test lights, Hipot tester, megger, Chip Programmers, Firmware Loaders, soldering equipment, Laptop/PC etc., and hand tools pertinent to the occupations.

PHYSICAL:

  • Sitting 50%; Standing/Moving about 50%

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Works in cramped positions; works on circuits up to 4k volts; performs emergency duties on street; subject to call during storms and emergencies.
