Summary

The 396 Lead Engine Assembler will be responsible for 396 engine assembly, including technical guidance to other 396 engine assemblers to maintain standard practices and build specifications. This role will also include Special Race engine builds in collaboration with Ilmor Engineers. Additionally, at times, this role may be required to assist the TD Engine program with hands-on projects related to the TD engine program.

Major Areas of Responsibility

  • Assist with assembly of any type of engine designed, manufactured, or serviced by Ilmor following industry standard assembly techniques.

  • Measure components to close tolerances.

  • Set and verify part clearances to design documents.

  • Verify conformance of parts to stock lists or blueprints using advanced measuring instruments, such as calipers, gauges, or micrometers.

  • Accurate use of measuring equipment and the required hand tools.

  • Assemble systems of components to common engine practices and/or Engineering requests.

  • Communicate and liaise with Ilmor engine builders on technical matters.

  • Crack testing of parts using non-destructive methods.

  • Engine build record keeping with component history data.

  • Other duties may be assigned.

  • Initial training areas would focus on 396 engine assembly, Special race engine assembly.

    Required Education & Experience

  • Vocational or Associates in a related subject such as assembly, engineering, engine tech would be preferred.

  • 5 - 7 years of recent hands-on race engine build experience.

  • Must have full knowledge of empirical and metric measuring equipment, including digital height gauges.

  • Experience setting critical engine clearances and tolerances per Engineering specifications.

  • Proficient with computers and Microsoft applications.

  • Familiarity with accurate engine record keeping.

  • Time Management.

  • Must have full knowledge of measuring equipment

    Demonstrated Physical Abilities/Work Environment

  • Remain stationary for 50% of the time; move/traverse throughout the office to access file cabinets and office equipment; operate a computer and other productivity machinery; inspect documents; communicate with others through talking/hearing; read/identify/assess forms and correspondence.
