University of Rochester Teaching Assistant II in Rochester, New York

POSITION SUMMARY:

Assists Teachers with classroom activities.

SUPERVISION AND DIRECTION EXERCISED:

None

MACHINES AND EQUIPMENT USED:

Tape Recorder, Video Cassette Recorder, Educational Toys, Kitchen Utensils

TYPICAL DUTIES:

  1. Assists Teachers in setting up room on a daily basis. Assembles appropriate materials.

  2. Assists with indoor and outdoor activities of children.

  3. Assists with guidance and discipline for children, intervening when necessary (in the form of physical restraint or guidance, removal of child to time-out room including lifting/carrying and use of common behavior management techniques).

  4. Aids children with toileting, hand washing and tooth brushing. Serves meals. Cleans classroom. Prepares and repairs materials and toys. Helps children rest. Rides the bus on a rotating basis.

  5. Assists Teacher in setting goals for children. Participates in planning and with ideas for activities.

  6. Leads a minimum of one daily classroom activity with Teacher present. Participates in admission, case conference, diagnostic and Individual Education Program meetings and staff meetings.

  7. Leads classroom when Teacher is not present.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate's in Psychology or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $16.50 - $21.45 Hourly

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
