THE POSITION

Douglas County Fairgrounds

Full time position available with competitive full-family benefit package.

PERS/OPSRP retirement and availability of deferred compensation retirement savings.

Onsite (Courthouse complex) childcare available at a discounted employee rate through Roseburg Professional Childcare (Fowler St. location only). Availability is subject to center waitlist.Job Summary:

This position performs journey-level duties in corrective and preventative maintenance, construction and repair of fair buildings, equipment and property.

Position requires a considerable amount of night and weekend work.

Essential Functions:

This is not an exhaustive or all-inclusive list of responsibilities, skills, duties or functions associated with the job.

  • Perform corrective and preventative maintenance work at fair facilities which includes: construct structures; paint buildings, install and maintain water and irrigation systems; basic electrical work; maintain HVAC systems, motors, switch boxes, lighting. Assess building and facility maintenance needs and report them to supervisor for development of maintenance plans.

  • Provide a variety of grounds maintenance duties, such as: sweep, rake, litter, garbage and stall cleanup; spread bark mulch; repair wood and concrete areas.

  • Perform basic cleaning of buildings which includes: clean, mop, strip, wax, and buff floors; shampoo carpets; wash windows, clean and disinfect restrooms; refill supplies. Collect trash and dispose.

  • Operate hand power tools and light to heavy equipment. These may include: forklift, front end loader, tiller, sweeper, mower, backhoe, 5-yard dump truck, water truck. Perform minor maintenance and repair on equipment and machinery.

  • Provide assistance to facility users and prepare buildings and facilities for renters and users; setup, take down tables, chairs, bleachers, stages, drapery, panels, kitchen equipment, power panels and electric cords.

  • Collect recreational vehicle park fees. Provide night security of grounds and buildings. Maintain records.

  • Clean and maintain work shop area; repair and maintain power and hand tools.

  • On a regularly scheduled basis, participate in morning opening or evening closing of buildings and facilities and an on-call status for emergencies.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:

Any equivalent combination of education and experience, which demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities required, will be considered. however, the following is preferred:

  • Three years progressively responsible work experience in building construction or building and mechanical maintenance.

Knowledge of: Considerable knowledge of building construction, mechanical, and plumbing methods, principles, practices, equipment, materials as applied to corrective and preventative building maintenance; considerable knowledge of methods, equipment and materials used in HVAC systems, plumbing, painting, appliance repair; reasonable knowledge of grounds maintenance; basic knowledge of Oregon Specialty Codes that govern building construction, mechanical and plumbing.Skill in:Safe operation of appropriate power tools and equipment.Ability to:Communicate effectively in oral and written forms; read blueprints and penciled layout sketches; interpret and comply with written and oral instructions; estimate time and materials for individual projects and manage time efficiently; utilize problem identification and resolution techniques; remain calm and use good judgment during confrontational or high pressure situations; establish and maintain records and reports; courteously meet and deal effectively with other employees, facility users and the public.

  • At time of appointment, must possess valid Oregon Drivers License.

  • Regular and consistent attendance

    Position requires a considerable amount of driving. Finalist will be required to provide a court print driving record that meets the Douglas County Driver Policy (https://douglascounty-oregon.us/264/Driver-Policy) , as part of contingent offer of employment.

SCREENING & EVALUATION

While not part of initial applicant screening, the finalist for this position may be required to pass a criminal history background check as part of a contingent offer of employment.

Employment is contingent upon a pre-employment drug screen. Presence of non-prescribed drugs, including marijuana, on drug screen results will result in disqualification pursuant to the County's drug and alcohol policy. To determine if physically qualified to perform the essential functions, employment offer is conditional upon satisfactory results of a post-offer medical and hearing exam conducted at county expense.
