GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Under supervision; performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance,
construction and repair of public works, sanitation, utilities, flood control, and equipment; operates
light to heavy duty equipment. Work varies requiring interpretative judgment within prescribed
standards and procedures.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
o Operates and maintains light to heavy duty equipment, including backhoes, front-end loaders, rollers,
and related equipment; uses a variety of hand and power tools
o Assists others in daily operation services; removes storm debris; places barricades; removes snow
and ice
o Mows and trims trees, grass, weeds and shrubbery; performs concrete and masonry work; applies
pesticides; services and performs minor equipment repairs
o Patches streets; assists in the repair and provides public safety in construction zones in accordance
with the MUTCD
o Performs overtime as needed and other duties as assigned
SUPERVISION - RESPONSIBILITY FOR WORK OF OTHERS:
May act as lead worker for new and/or seasonal employee
MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to the following:
o High school diploma or G.E.D.
o One (1) year of experience in construction or maintenance work
o Possession of a valid Kansas Class C drivers license
RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS:
This position has a 40-minute response time by way of the most direct route and within the posted
speed limits; or must live within the city limits of Salina, Bennington, Minneapolis, McPherson,
Solomon, Abilene, or Carneiro.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Work Type: Very heavy, exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50
pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Climbing/Balancing: Climb inclines, uneven surfaces, balance required

MACHINES, TOOLS, EQUIPMENT AND WORK AIDS USED:
Pickup, salt spreaders, tractor mowers, tractor loader, jackhammer, chain saw, concrete vibrator,
pumps, weed-eaters, earth vibrator and tamps, asphalt equipment, shovel, rakes, and brooms.
