About the role

We are seeking an experienced Operations Director to lead our Downstream Processing for the large molecule production site in Leiden. The role is critical to support our growth in the next few years including new product introductions. They will lead 3 teams in day and shifts, who are responsible for Production department, Process Support (day to day shift coordination, lean, training) and Center of Expertise (specialists on process, equipment, MES, Quality).

The Operations Director will play a pivotal role in overseeing the production preparation processes, ensuring compliance with GMP, regulations, optimizing efficiency, and driving continuous improvement initiatives to meet our site strategic goals. The role is based in Leiden and requires onsite presence.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a team of dedicated managers, providing guidance, coaching, and support.

• The Director Operations maintains engagement, high morale, motivation and efficiency within their shift by adhering to the J&J leadership imperatives. Creates a positive environment for people development. Enables a good pipeline of succession for key positions in JBV.

• Develop and implement plans to deliver site strategic goals

• Overall responsibility for department culture of safety, quality, reliability, sustainability and efficiency.

• Manage resource allocation, capacity planning and customer expectations.

• Collaborate closely with other teams including Upstream Processing, Quality Assurance, Engineering, Supply Chain and R&D to drive improvements and innovations.

• Establish and enforce according to internal high quality standards and compliance with relevant regulations.

• Monitor performance indicators to track operational performance and identify trends to proactively address deviations from targets.

• Collaborate with partners of the other manufacturing areas on site for the delivery of supporting processes

• Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and dedication within the Operations department

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Requirements for the role

• Academic education level with strong knowledge of Biotech Operations process

• Proven track record of successfully leading teams, managing complex projects and continuous improvement initiatives

• Excellent communication (English and Dutch), negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.

• Demonstrated strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities, with a focus on achieving results and exceeding targets

• Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and navigate ambiguity in a dynamic industry landscape.

• 10 years experience in (Bio)Pharmaceutical Manufacturing and leadership roles
