County of Nolan Communications Officers in Sweetwater, Texas

Communications Officers receive and assess emergency and routine public phone calls, categorizes, and prioritizes the request for law enforcement assistance, obtains necessary information, researches involved parties, locations and addresses for prior events, for officer safety information, determines what resources to use, and dispatches units to incident locations. Tracks units and maintains cognizant knowledge of all filed units as to their status and location throughout the assigned shift. Monitors other agency radio traffic for possible assistance requirements and exchanges information with other law enforcement officials.

The Communications Officers utilizes TLETS (Texas Law Enforcement Telecommunications System), Texas Crime Information Center (TCIC) and National Crime Information Center (NCIC) networks and maintains the security and integrity of the office and of TCIC files. The communications officers dispatch special assignment teams as necessary to handle special or emergency agencies. Work is performed under the direction of Patrol Sergeant, Stacy Villanueva and functions may vary by individual assignment.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 21 Years of Age or Older
  • United States Citizen
  • Valid Motor Vehicle Driver License
  • NO FELONY Convictions
  • NO DOMESTIC VIOLENCEConvictions
  • NO"A" Misdemeanor Convictions
  • NO"B" Misdemeanor Convictions (10 yrs)

All communications officers are required to attend a 40-hour course at the West Central Texas Law Enforcement Academy for telecommunicator certification by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE). Upon successful completion of the Academy and state exam, Certified Telecommunicator status is attained.
