JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Business Office Lead assists the Director in managing the operations of the Business Office and ensures compliance with established business office practices. This position is responsible for coordinating timely billing, posting payments and adjustments, and monitoring outstanding accounts.

Qualifications
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Education: High School Graduate or Equivalent required
Experience: Significant experience in a hospital business office as a biller/collector required.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
Effective telephone techniques and listening skills
Working knowledge of insurance terms, reimbursement procedures, medical terminology and hospital services, rates and policies relating to collection activities
Good verbal and written communication
Must be able to perform assignments with minimal
Must be able to perform concentrated/complex mental activity with frequent involvement in complex/highly technical
Must be able to work successfully under highly stressful conditions.
Must be able to make sound, independent judgments based on scientific/ethical principles.
Must be able to comprehend and perform oral and written instructions and procedures.
Must be able to collaborate with other multidisciplinary team members in an appropriate
Must be capable of adapting to varying workloads and work assignments on a constant
Must have effective comprehensive reading skills and strong communication skills--both written and verbal.
Must possess a valid California Driver’s License in order to drive hospital vehicles or go on hospital business.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITON:
Must be able to demonstrate special training, knowledge and skills specific to job specific competency within the first three (3) months of hire
Must complete all required mandatory in-services
Must be tested for Tuberculosis with a PPD skin test or chest x-ray upon hire; PPD skin test required annually or chest x-ray tri-annually
JOB DUTIES:
Knowledgeable of all payers and billing/payment
Knowledgeable of collections procedures and
Consistently receives and processes accounts receivable checks and other mail on day
Always follows established procedures in recording cash payments received and preparing
Consistently processes accounts receivable checks in an organized and effective manner according to established procedures and applies all payments to appropriate accounts without
Always exercises care in handling cash and consistently follows established
Always investigates and resolves any patient charge or other account discrepancies within one (1) day of reviewing
Regularly challenges the efficiency and effectiveness of the account review and bill processing work methods and procedures; prepares and communicates recommended revision to the Business Office Director.
Consistently applies appropriate procedures and formulas in preparing billing statements, computing late charges and forwarding overdue
Always ensures the accuracy and completeness of billing
Reviews all department billing policies and procedures annually to maintain current knowledge level and proficiency in the department’s operating
Regularly reviews legislation effective to all third party reimbursement to remain aware of any pertinent changes in allowances or
Demonstrates understanding of utilization review systems including eligibility, authorization, benefits and
Demonstrates proficiency in automated systems including PC operation, Facsimile machines, and internet
Demonstrates and is knowledgeable of the following policies and procedures for disaster and alarm response: a) Who to call; b) Checklist; c) Fire Department notification; d) House Supervisor notification; and e) Triage
