Job Description

The VP Fleet Management - Europe will lead, guide and direct end to end Fleet Management including the fleet acquisition, disposition, maintenance, supply chain and logistics policies and processes for Hertz’s European region, with specific focus on ensuring best-in-class terms on both ends of the fleet life cycle, therein supporting both the customer experience and overarching financial performance of the region.

This will include operational planning and responsibility for coordinating and providing overall stewardship across Europe to the Fleet Management Programme, in adherence with safety, environmental, vehicle, transport and workplace regulations. He / she will also play a key role in development and implementation of the future strategy and direction of Hertz’s Fleet Management.

What You’ll Do:

  • As subject matter expert in Fleet Management for the organisation, develop and deliver an acquisition, disposition/ re-marketing strategy by identifying the best channels with highest ROS; based on current and future values and reflective of multi-OEM-brand mix

  • Develop and implement fleet acquisition strategies that can meet Hertz’s operating needs and assure smooth and cost-efficient operations to drive business results

  • Order vehicles with OEMs and provide model and trim level recommendations to business/operations team, based on current and future market values including mix and multi-brand strategies

  • Working with the Country Field Operations Leadership and Country Manager teams (who themselves lead the day-to-day ‘in-life’ activity of the Fleet), ensure receiving, maintenance / reconditioning, inspection, warranties, licences, registrations, sales and release activities related to the vehicle inventory portfolio are addressed effectively and in a timely manner to best-position the Fleet across the vehicle life cycle, through to disposition

  • Serve as subject matter expert on trade intake operations including participating in calculating accurate vehicle values, offers and offer adjustments as well as establishing and supporting vehicle trade and validation procedures conducted by country operations

  • Oversee scheduling and transport of all inbound and outbound inventory and ensure vehicles are transported in a timely and accurate manner, also ensuring fleet payments and vendor invoices are handled with accuracy and followed up as needed

  • Ensuring fleet maintenance is scheduled and carried out efficiently and effectively as required under warranties and ensuring parts inventory levels are optimised to minimise out of service.

  • Assess and identify, working jointly with Operations team, areas for vehicle management and maintenance procedures improvements

  • Foster and maintain strong relationships with remarketers / auction / other companies which support the company in achieving its re-marketing /disposition goals

  • Collaborate with Operations team to ensure the required reconditioning and repair activities are completed prior to vehicle sale

  • Manage and ensure that reported inventory levels, and sales results are accurate and properly recorded

  • Monitor fleet utilisation metrics against established goals and works with Revenue Management and Country General Managers to improve style mix and quantities as needed to meet multi-brand demand

  • Contribute input to Revenue Management/Planning to improve forecast accuracy and financial performance, identifying opportunities across fleet reinvestment and asset retirement; and to reduce cost, maximise efficiency and increase productivity of the business overall

  • Undertake other responsibilities as assigned or as necessary to achieve goals and expected outcomes of the position

  • Provide direction, leadership and management of Fleet team across acquisition, disposition / re-marketing, maintenance, engendering performance management KPIs to maximise efficiency, increase productivity and reduce cost; also providing direction, conjointly with Country Leadership teams, in supporting Country Fleet Managers to achieve key strategic

What We’re Looking For:

Education

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in business management, logistics etc with at least 10 years senior level line management experience in a widely dispersed and international service industry.

Professional Experience

  • Progressive senior leadership experience in automotive sales, disposition/ re-marketing, and/or automotive wholesale

  • Car rental industry or logistics/fleet management experience a plus, particularly in fleet acquisition and disposition / re-marketing

  • Prior supervisory and team building experience
