Choice Hotels, one of the world’s largest lodging franchisors, is currently seeking Interns for the 2024 Summer Season!! We have an exciting new opportunity for a Sustainability Intern in the Sustainability Department.

Choice aims to build a lasting legacy of sustainability, prosperity and wellbeing for our franchisees, our associates, our guests, our communities and our world. The Sustainability department defines the strategy and/or coordinates the execution of tactics under three key pillars:

• People – e.g. human trafficking prevention, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging, community outreach

• Planet – e.g. Choice’s climate strategy, environmental initiatives supporting our hotel portfolio, responsible sourcing

• Performance – e.g. corporate and Sustainability governance, risk management

The Sustainability Intern will be an integral part of the highly dynamic Sustainability department, working with the team to grow the impact of the Sustainability function, both within the organization, throughout our hotel portfolio and to other external stakeholders. The intern will learn through this internship the fundamentals of running cross-functional projects, the importance of the growing role Sustainability has within the industry the company and its franchisees.

Your Responsibilities may include

• Supporting our efforts to reduce single-use plastics at our hotels

• Helping with the relaunch our volunteer and matching gift portal to drive engagement with our 1,600 associates, providing them meaningful opportunities to support our communities. Defining the communication strategy around the relaunch of the portal.

• Helping roll-out a new sustainability training aimed at supporting our hotels, in partnership with our Brand Operations Department.

• Closely partnering with other key stakeholders such as the Brand Operations Department, the Digital Department and more.

• Taking an active role in our Green Team Employee Resource Group

• Additional work / project work as assigned

Your Experience, Skills & Competencies

• Experience in project management is a must

• On-site (Minneapolis, MN-based)

• At minimum, Junior and Senior undergraduate students working towards a Bachelor’s degree.

• Trustworthy with sensitive and confidential information.

• Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.

• Eager to learn, positive attitude, highly motivated.

• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

• Works well independently and as part of a team.

• Experience working in the hospitality industry, helpful but not required.

Your Work Location

As our Sustainability Intern, you will be based in our beautiful, brand-new office in Minneapolis, MN. Less than 3 miles from Downtown Minneapolis, we’re within easy access to 394, and plenty of free parking provided by Choice Hotels.

Right now, our associates are working in a hybrid environment, mixing in office and virtual. Leaders will provide more direction upon expectations during the interview process.
