Army Tank-Automotive and Armament Command (TACOM) Planner and Estimator (Production Machinery Mechanic) in Watervliet, New York

About the Position: The Watervliet Arsenal is an Army-owned and -operated manufacturing center located in New York. It is the oldest, continuously active arsenal in the United States having begun operations in 1813. Responsibilities Prepares plans, detailed specifications, and equipment, material and labor cost estimates for installation, maintenance, repair, modification, or removal of production machinery, industrial plant equipment and systems. Revise plans and estimates if necessary as work progresses. Troubleshoot, determine extent of repairs, parts needed, and time required to make repairs. Prepares sketches reflecting exacting details suitable for use to fabricate or manufacture needed parts/components. Coordinates and maintains liaison with user of equipment, requester, contractor, subcontractor, engineering personnel, command, HQ, etc., to gather required information, plans, specifications, and contracts. Receive work orders and applies journeyman Production Machinery Mechanic skills/knowledge to perform the complete scope of planning and estimating for installation, alteration, extension, modification, retrofit, maintenance and repair of equipment. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Planner and Estimator (Production Machinery Mechanic) without more than normal supervision which includes: (1) Maintaining numerically controlled and/or computer controlled machines; (2) Diagnosing electrical, hydraulic, electronic, and or mechanical malfunctional issues; and (3) Utilizing automated systems to meet deadlines and/or compliance with policies and procedures.- Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading) Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. Knowledge of Materials Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Trouble Shooting PHYSICAL EFFORT: Incumbent performs work on hard surfaces and in work areas that require him to stand, stoop, bend, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Is required to lift and carry items weighing up to 40 pounds. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is generally done in areas that are well lighted heated and ventilated. Incumbent may occasionally work inside areas that are drafty. The work is sometimes dirty, dusty, and greasy. Exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, and bruises. Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct deposit of pay is required. This is a Logistics Career Field position. Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees.
